Bernie Senensky

Three-time Juno nominee, twice voted "Best Acoustic Pianist" in the Jazz Report awards and winner of a SOCAN award for "Best Jazz Composition", Bernie Senensky has earned the reputation of being one of Canada’s premier Jazz artists, with 13 recordings under his own name, featuring top US & Canadian artists including: Gary Bartz, Ray Drummond, Eddie Henderson, Bobby Watson, Akira Tana, Harvie Swartz, Bob Moses, Gene Perla, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Marty Morell, Don Alias, Terry Clarke, Neil Swainson, Kirk MacDonald & Michel Donato.

His playing can consisit of explosive bursts of technical wizardry on the one hand and relaxed, soulful grooves on the other.

The list of artists that he has performed with reads like a “who’s who” of jazz, including: Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Joe Williams, Rashied Ali, Eric Alexander, Phil Woods, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ravi Coltrane, Blue Mitchell, Pharoh Sanders, Dave Liebman, Art Blakey, James Moody, Mark Murphy, Donald Byrd, Elvin Jones (who called Bernie "one of the finest pianists I have ever played with in my career"), Art Farmer, George Coleman, Joe Farnsworth, Buddy DeFranco (who called Bernie "the best of the best"), Clark Terry, Sonny Stitt, Red Rodney, Barney Kessel, Art Pepper, Terry Gibbs, Chris Potter, Pepper Adams & Zoot Sims. Bernie is also recognized across Canada for his close associations with Moe Koffman, Dave Young and Peter Appleyard.

He appeared as a guest on the acclaimed Marian McPartland public radio show “Piano Jazz” and holds the distinction of being the only Canadian guest of Oscar Peterson on his TV show “Oscar Peterson Presents”, among the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie.
