Big Smoke Brass Band

Big Smoke Brass was formed in the summer of 2017 by a group of friends from the University of Toronto's jazz program. The band cut its teeth playing on the streets of the Toronto and quickly garnered a following thanks to its ear-catching sound and strong group dynamic. Busking on the streets led to several performances on Toronto's club circuit, as well as numerous private and corporate events around the GTA and central Ontario.

Following on the momentum of the summer, the band went into the studio in December of 2017 to record its debut album, "NO BREAKS", which is slated for release in late May 2018. The album features four band and crowd favourites from the summer, as well as two brand-new original songs by the band. The band spent the Spring of 2018 working on the album and prepping it for release, as well as writing and arranging a host of new material for the 2018 season. 2018 also saw the addition of sousaphone player Simon Balleyguier to the band, elevating the group's sound to an entire other level.

August of 2018 saw the band taking their music out of the city and on the road as they headlined their first tour in promotion of No Breaks. With performances in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Moncton, Saint John and culminating in a headlining performance at the Pocologan Camp Party 2018, the tour was a huge success for the band and marked the beginning of a new sense of purpose and drive.

Now heading into their second year together as the band, they are feverishly writing material for their follow up album while continuing to perform in Toronto and beyond. With an emphasis on positivity, community and diversity, Big Smoke Brass is dedicated to creating an experience that is welcoming for everyone.
