Eliana Cuevas

After a decade of intensive performing, writing and composing, Venezuelan born Toronto based Eliana Cuevas is rising from the ranks to acclaim as one of Canada’s finest world and jazz music performers and creators. She has released three albums in Canada under her own name -- Cohesion (2002), Ventura (2004) and Vidas (2007) and also one album in Europe -- Luna Llena (2009). She has toured extensively across the country bringing her music to various concert halls and Festivals in Nova Scotia, Ontario, Yukon, Alberta, Quebec, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. In 2006 she made her debut on her native Venezuelan soil at the Hatillo Jazz Festival and her European debut at the Reeperbahn Jazz Festival in Hamburg. In 2007 Eliana won the Toronto Independent Music Award for
World Music Artist of the Year. In 2008 she was nominated in the Canadian Folk Music Awards for Best World Music Solo Artist. In 2009 Eliana won the National Jazz Award for Latin Jazz Artist of the Year and toured in Germany following the release of Luna Llena. Eliana has spent 2010 and 2011 composing for her new CD to be released in 2012 and also performing in Canada and abroad with her band and other projects including the Jorge Miguel flamenco ensemble and Juno nominee jazz trombonist and composer Darren Sigesmund. The performances have taken place in various cities of Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC, Nova Scotia, Yukon, Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario and in Europe in various cities of Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Luxembourg, Belgium and Switzerland. The combination of original words and music, an exceptional band and her own superb vocal abilities make Eliana Cuevas an artist to both appreciate and watch out for more of. Her Latin American songwriting style with musical elements that draw on Latin American popular tradition, jazz tradition and more, results in a branch of world music impossible to define, compelling, beautiful and 100% Eliana Cuevas.
