To celebrate his 20-year association with celebrated jazz label Songlines Records, Canadian clarinetist François Houle presents a double-bill with his ongoing duo with brilliant French pianist Benoît Delbecq, and his new stellar band, an International collaborative project with some of Canada’s most celebrated expatriates, and colleagues from New York City and Berlin.

This new band got together in New York City in 2011 and went on to record a new CD release on Vancouver’s celebrated jazz label Songlines Records.
Composed of some of the Jazz world’s brightest lights, this new quintet’s repertoire taps into the member’s songbooks, a treasure trove of exhilarating compositions guaranteed to excite and wow audiences everywhere. Led by Houle, the band walks the fine line between composition and improvisation, with a strong bend on the jazz vernacular.

Clarinetist François Houle has followed a musical path few others have travelled. He is a true innovator and pioneer of the instrument, opening sonic vistas in the most imaginative ways possible. François has released CDs on several labels and has toured internationally.

He has twice been listed by Downbeat magazine as a “Talent Deserving Wider Recognition” and was hailed as a “Rising Star” in Downbeat’s 2008 Critics’ Poll. He is “a spectacularly versatile clarinetist who appears to have no limitations stylistically or sonically” (Mark Swed, LA Times)
