Hotland Trio

Hotland Trio’s music features beautiful, contemplative melodies rooted in Balkan and Canadian folk, always complemented with a distinct and relentless rhythmic drive.

Their music often creates new and exciting worlds with exotic moods that are sometimes melancholic, sometimes tragic, but often joyful and passionate.

Though rooted in folk idioms, the music also reveals their classical roots as well as their deep appreciation and love for all improvisational styles of music.

This constant flux of new and old influences pushes the trio to continually explore and find new ways of expressing their ideas.

Hotland Trio has grown out of friendship and a profound musical connection between the violinist Aleksandar Gajic, the accordionist Milos Popovic, and the bassist Joe Phillips. Prior to forming the trio, they have played together and shared the stage on countless occasions.
