Nicola Piovani

Recipient of the 1998 Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score for his work on Roberto Benigni’s Life is Beautiful, Nicola Piovani will present La Musica è Pericolosa (Music is Dangerous). This is the title of the event, as well as his autobiography released in 2014. The audience will be delighted to find the maestro at his piano, accompanied by a small orchestra, playing previously unreleased theatrical tracks as well as some of his most celebrated works, spanning his five-decade long career. Piovani will narrate the path that led him to collaborate with some of the most influential film directors in history.

Pianist, conductor and composer of film and theatre scores, Nicola Piovani is a Rome native who rose to international fame following his 1998 Oscar win for Best Original Score for La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful). He has won more than a dozen other prizes, including three David di Donatello awards and a Golden Globe for Lifetime Achievement. He has written more than one hundred and fifty film scores, working with some of the most famous Italian directors, including the legendary Federico Fellini, who commissioned Piovani for three films: Ginger e Fred, Intervista and La Voce della Luna. He even went on to write a ballet dedicated to Fellini.

This event is proudly organized by the Italian Embassy, the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the ICFF presented by IC Savings, and the TD Toronto Jazz Festival.
