Peter Appleyard

With a career spanning close to 70 years, Peter Appleyard is a Canadian jazz legend. As one of the most sought after percussionists in jazz, Peter has toured the world with Benny Goodman’s world class band and shared stages with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Oscar Peterson and Mel Tormé. An Officer of the Order of Canada and soon to be Oscar Peterson Lifetime Achievement honoree at the Montreal Jazz Festival (2012), Peter’s talent has left an impressive legacy on the international jazz community.

Peter Appleyard has impacted and influenced the jazz community in immeasurable ways releasing over 20 albums and lending his talents to countless others. He's played with some of best jazz bands in history as a member of Benny Goodman's Jazz Sextet and shared stages with Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Oscar Peterson, to name a few.

This year Peter released two albums - Peter Appleyard & The Sophisticated Ladies and The Lost 1974 Sessions, recorded in Toronto in 1974 with The Giants of Jazz - Hank Jones, Slam Stewart, Mel Lewis, Zoot Sims, Bobby Hackett and Urbie Green will finally be released internationally after 37 years in March on True North/ Linus Entertainment.
