Tim Shia

Over the years, whether backing Donne Roberts at Afrofest; laying down tracks for Electronica Artist Milosh (Rhye) or Trumpeter/Singer/Songwriter Rebecca Hennessy; headlining a Taiwan Hip Hop festival with LEO37; or winning the Trille Or with Amelie and Les Singes Bleus, Tim Shia has been fortunate enough to play with a host of Juno, Polaris and Grammy Award winning/losing musicians in an array of genres.

As a bandleader, Tim’s own group, the critically acclaimed Worst Pop Band Ever, has packed festivals and clubs across North America and Asia from St John’s to Seattle to NYC to Taipei, been featured on All About Jazz and NOW magazine, and topped college radio charts. They’ve recorded and/or shared stages with Elizabeth Shepherd, the Bad Plus and Brad Goode. His latest original project is the band Shiverbeck.

When he’s not performing, Tim has scored and licensed music for film and television including work for CBC, the Toronto Public Library, Teletoon, the NFB and even Disney. This includes a number of award winning animated works produced by the multimedia company PPF House, which he operates with his brother, Howie.

Tim has run masterclasses and workshops on performance and improvisation at every level from Kindergarten to Post Secondary Institutions across Canada for over 2 decades. And for a brief while, he also hosted a radio show on JAZZ.FM91 and Paul Chin’s Istolethesoul FM internet radio.

Tim is a Dream Cymbals and Headhunters Drumsticks artist and the father of 3 feral girls.
