Well - that was fun!

After months of planning, hundreds of emails, countless phone calls, and more than 400 submissions, we announced the lineup for the 2011 TD Toronto Jazz Festival - our 25th edition - this past Tuesday, live-to-air on JAZZ.FM91. That seemed to go by rather quickly! A big thank you to everyone who was able to make it out to the event; to our colleagues in the media who have already done a great job in spreading the word about the festival; and to everyone who has sent me personal notes. I'm frequently reminded - like on Tuesday afternoon, surrounded by people who are passionate about jazz - of how lucky I am to get to do this job...

Speaking of fun, I'm looking forward to this Saturday night's Barnyard Records Triple CD Release at 918 Bathurst, featuring the AimToronto Orchestra, the Evan Parker/Wes Neal/Joe Sorbara group and the Evan Shaw/Nicole Rampersaud/Jean Martin/Wes Neal/Tomasz Krakowiak group. The event is one of four TDJ Special Projects, and it should be an outstanding evening of creative music. For complete concert details, go to torontojazz.com.

The next few weeks are going to be hectic ones as my wife and I prepare for a move...so I may not get out to as much live music as usual for the next little while. It was a good month, musically speaking - the Barry Elmes CD release at The Rex; Dave Holland with the Humber Faculty; Zakhir Hussain and Niladri Kumar at the Toronto Centre for the Arts; Robert Glasper Experiment at Glenn Gould Studio; the Chris Tarry Group at The Rex; the Kirk MacDonald Orchestra at Humber; Continuum Contemporary Music at the Music Gallery; and a couple of my own (Toronto Jazz Orchestra) gigs.

What have you seen recently? What's on your radar?

Josh
