Tedeschi Trucks Band

After many years on the road building separate, successful solo careers, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have united to form a new band with an extended pool of collaborators and friends. Well-known for their outstanding live performances, the formidable husband-and-wife duo are now exploring new ideas together through songs rooted in the blues and infused with their own unique blend of southern soul, American roots music, authentic rock ‘n’ roll, and a touch of Florida swamp magic. These ideas coalesced into an album, "Revelator," which was released on Sony Masterworks on June 7, 2011.

George Benson

Tags:

"At various points along the four-decade continuum of George Benson’s career, he has been heralded as a jazz guitarist of unparalleled chops, a vocalist with great emotional range and sophistication or a combination of both. However, he regards himself as an entertainer in the broadest sense of the word – a singer of songs, a spinner of tales. That’s the essence" Songs and Stories.

What's so good about The Robert Cray Band?

Artist:
Robert Cray Band

As Artistic Director of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, I get to listen to all kinds of great, progressive, contemporary jazz - music and musicians who are taking jazz into the future. But one of the great joys of the job is also the opportunity to revel in the classic sounds of artists who have been making outstanding music for decades. Robert Cray falls squarely into this "classic" category.

fulare_pad, pronounced “Furaripaddo” in Japanese, means wanderer or traveler.

Daisuke Maeda, ukulele
Hideyuki Shimizu, guitar

Both musicians began studying guitar at the age of 13. Along the way, Daisuke found that his real interest was the ukulele and once he and Hideyuki joined their musical talents, in 2005, they founded a guitar/ukulele duo and called themselves the Wanderers (fulare-pad).

Pablo Menendez & Mezcla Cuban All Stars

Mezcla Cuban All Stars, under the direction of Pablo Menendez, has been a part of the sound-track of the Cuban music scene for the past twenty-five years. A jazz ensemble fusing Afro-Cuban rhythms with yoruba, salsa and rock, Mezcla's music is a genuine celebration of the culture and musical roots of the Pearl of the Antilles.

While still in his teens, Jesse moved to New York City where he soaked up much of the classic jazz scene. In New York, he performed at Windows on the World (107th floor of the former World Trade Center), the Spy Bar (SoHo) and Lansky's Lounge (East Village). Returning to his native Toronto, Jesse met and began working with Canadian music legend Jeff Healey.

Andrea Ramolo

Singer/songwriter’s are usually well respected for their finely crafted songs and lyrical poetry, yet many times they are plain hard to understand and relate to. Enter Andrea Ramolo, the Toronto based indie artist, who is currently on a 90+ show tour which will take her and bandmate Jason Skiendziel all across Canada. Her musical path is one of relentless touring that helps her see the great outdoors and experience life to the fullest. I had a chance to chat with her after the tour’s kickoff show in Toronto at the Bread and Circus. It was interesting to say the least.
