Each year the Big Band Slam brings together high school bands from across the Greater Toronto Area for an afternoon of trumpet blasting, trombone sliding, sax squealing excitement. The Slam is not a competition; it is instead a chance to showcase some of the outstanding music being made by high school music students across the city.

The 2019 Big Band Slam features bands from Castlebrooke Secondary School, Senator O'Connor College School, Loretto College School and St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School. Saxophonist, composer and educator Colleen Allen will serve as special guest for the Slam, rehearsing with each band in advance and performing with each band at the Slam.

The Big Band Slam is a free, all-ages event, and is generously supported by Long & McQuade Musical Instruments and the Ken Page Memorial Trust.

A multi talented musician, Colleen Allen makes her magic on alto, tenor and soprano sax, as well as the flute clarinet and accordion. Known for her skill and presence on stage, she is currently a member of Molly Johnson's band and has performed with a diverse array of artists such as Anne Murray, Holly Cole, Shirley Eikhard, Rita MacNeil, Gino Vanelli, John McDermott, Ani DiFranco and Cirque de Soleil.
