Spectrum Music presents Tales of the Unconscious

TD Discovery Series Special Projects
Date:
Sat Mar 4 8:00pm
Ticket Price:
$10-15

Tales of the Unconscious is a concert inspired by dreams and our subconscious minds. Four Spectrum composers - Shannon Graham, Jay Vazquez, Chelsea McBride and Ben McCarroll-Butler - have taken wildly varied perspectives on the theme to create four new evocative works, to be performed by Musicata, a 28-voice chamber choir from Hamilton, and three of Toronto’s foremost jazz improvisers: Mike Murley (tenor saxophone), Chris Pruden (piano), and Andrew Downing (bass). The concert will be preceded by a pre-concert chat with a local analyst about why, and what, we dream.

A TD Discovery Series Special Project.

Spectrum is a group of Canadian composers who create and present genre-defying new music, where jazz, classical, folk, and world music meet. We do this through themed concerts, to explore points where art music collides with the real world. Rooted in jazz and creative music, the core of our philosophy is the idea that the future of jazz music lies in its synthesis with other genres. Since our formation in 2010, Spectrum has expanded to include composers and performers from a diverse array of musical backgrounds and communities.
