Chet Baker lovers have yet another reason to come to this year’s TD Toronto Jazz Festival.
Launched at TIFF last year, Robert Budreau’s film Born to be Blue examines the life of trumpeter and vocalist Chet Baker. Actor Ethan Hawke plays the acclaimed musician with a lifelong struggle with addiction.
Actor, producer and director Kiefer Sutherland will bring his band to this year’s TD Toronto Jazz Festival. Best known for his television role as Jack Bauer on 24, Sutherland’s debut album tour will be coming to the Horseshoe Tavern on June 27, 2016. The LP, ‘Down in a Hole’, is made up of 11 rootsy tracks about Sutherland’s personal experiences.
International Jazz Day celebrated its fifth anniversary on April 30, 2016 in over 190 countries worldwide. Coordinated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Culture Organization (UNESCO) and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, the global day celebrates the power of jazz as a vehicle for freedom and expression. Renowned musician and composer Herbie Hancock chairs the international day, serving as the UNESCO Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue and Chairman of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
On Sunday April 24 at 3pm in the afternoon, get thee to the Alliance Francaise, 24 Spadina Road, for the long-awaited debut of the Art Song Project by David Occhipinti. Featuring vocalists from the jazz and classical worlds performing songs in a chamber music setting, this will be a special afternoon full of improvisation and guest performances.

Toronto Downtown Jazz, producer of the annual TD Toronto Jazz Festival, is pleased to announce the appointment of Howard Kerbel as the Chief Executive Officer, who effective immediately, will take over from Patrick Taylor, co-founder of the Festival. Taylor stays with the organization as a key member of the Programming team and advisor to Mr. Kerbel.
Joey Alexander, a 12-year-old boy from Indonesia, has become one of the most talented jazz musicians in the community. He has already been nominated for two Grammy Awards this year for his new, and first, album "My Favourite Things." He may be young, but he is consumed with musical talent.
