The Artistic Director's Guide to Jazz - Live! with Larnell Lewis

At each session of The Artistic Director's Guide to Jazz - Live!, Artistic Director Josh Grossman chats with a local musician about, and plays tracks from, some of the artists performing at the 2014 TD Toronto Jazz Festival. For this session, Josh sat down with local drummer and educator Larnell Lewis to discuss the influence of R&B on some of the acts appearing at this year’s festival. Here's how it went:

• Start-4:47 - Josh discusses Larnell's approach to the drums, and the influence of R&B on his playing

• 4:48-15:23 - Josh and Larnell discuss Snarky Puppy, and listen to "Gone Under" from Family Dinner, Volume 1
• 15:24-24:17 - Josh and Larnell discuss Mark McLean, and listen to "Angel on my Pillow” from Feel Alright
• 24:18-35:19 - Josh and Larnell discuss Earth Wind & Fire, and listen to the classic track "September"
• 35:20-47:35 - Josh and Larnell discuss Lettuce, and listen to “Lettsanity” from Fly
