The Jazz Musician Intensive Ensemble 2018

The Jazz Musician Intensive (JMI) Ensemble is made up of students from the four main post-secondary jazz programs in the Greater Toronto Area: University of Toronto, Humber College, York University and Mohawk College. Two students were selected by faculty members from each school to make up the eight-member ensemble. Under the direction of JUNO Award winning bassist and composer Mike Downes, the JMI Ensemble will rehearse daily during the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, preparing jazz standards and original compositions for this performance. The 2018 JMI Ensemble is:

Caity Gyorgy - voice (Humber College)
Christopher Anderson-Lundy - sax (York University)
Mike Henley - trumpet (University of Toronto)
Nicholas Rhodes - guitar (Mohawk College)
James Addis - piano (York University)
Irene Harrett - bass (University of Toronto)
Kurtis Vandervie - drums (Mohawk College)
Agneya Chikte - drums, percussion (Humber College)

The Jazz Musician Intensive is a new initiative for the 2018 TD Toronto Jazz Festival which seeks to support developing musicians through two streams of activity: a series of daily clinics covering a variety of topics related to the wider music industry, and the eight member ensemble.
