Although JUNO nominee Alex Pangman grew up a couple of generations late to have sung with Benny Goodman, the vibrant vocalist is proud to be known as Canada’s Sweetheart of Swing. With pipes aplenty, Pangman possesses the requisite taste, talent, and appreciation of the genre to breathe new life into the hot jazz of the 1920s and 30s.

A superb song stylist with solid compositional chops, Pangman has a loyal fanbase amongst jazz listeners and dancers from her critically acclaimed work with her stacked Alleycats which include John MacLeod, The Sweet Hots Trio (Drew Jurecka and Nathan Hiltz), and also with Bucky Pizzarelli, Jeff Healey, Kevin Clark and many more.

Alex’s obsession with jazz began in her teens when she discovered Louis Armstrong and The Boswell Sisters. Since then she has lived and loved the music, and has gone on to open the TD Toronto Jazz Festival for Willie Nelson at Massey Hall with her Alleycats, appear at Koerner Hall (once as special guest of John Pizzarelli, once for Jazz Lives), perform on main stages at Montreal Jazz, and more recently enjoy two #1 iTunes singles performing music given to her by the estate of swing great Connie Boswell.

She is not just a Toronto secret: With two of her albums being recorded in New Orleans for Montreal's Justin Time Records, she has played all the major jazz festivals in Canada, as well as playing in the USA, England, Denmark, and Scotland.

During the pandemic, Pangman's trio The Sweet Hots moved their Senator shows to a monthly online concert series which has continued for over 24 months. Pangman also hosts Swing Set, a weekly swing-era show airing on JAZZ.FM91 every Saturday night. She is also a double lung transplant recipient and advocate.
