Curtis Nowosad is a JUNO-nominated, NYC-based jazz drummer, composer, educator and recording artist. Having made his home in Harlem for the last decade, the native of Winnipeg, MB, Canada has established himself as an integral part of the NYC and international jazz scene, both as a bandleader and a sideperson.

Curtis has played in the bands of many top jazz artists of multiple generations, including Jazzmeia Horn, Jane Monheit, Steve Nelson, Brianna Thomas, Philip Harper, Bria Skonberg, Jocelyn Gould, Craig Harris, Marc Cary and Braxton Cook, with whom he has toured extensively in Europe and North America and performed on ABC’s Good Morning America. He has played with five NEA Jazz Masters—Ron Carter, Kenny Barron, Jimmy Owens, Dave Liebman and Cándido Camero—and led bands at many notable clubs, including The Blue Note, The Jazz Standard and Dizzy’s and many major festivals in Canada and the US. His band holds a monthly residency at Smalls Jazz Club in NYC.

Curtis’ recent EP, If I Had (La Reserve), features his trio—Andrew Renfroe on guitar and Luke Sellick on bass—interpreting the music of Nick Drake, Pete Seeger, Jimmy Webb and Stevie Wonder. He has released three albums: Curtis Nowosad (2019), the WCMA-winning and JUNO-nominated Dialectics (2015) and The Skeptic & the Cynic (2012), as well as a remix EP: CNRMXD (2022).

Curtis holds a Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music, where he serves on the Precollege jazz faculty. He endorses Zildjian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks and Yamaha drums.
