DJ John Kong

John Kong is a Toronto-based DJ, curator, label owner, and record collector. His selections for the dance floor echo his work with Do Right Music, a record label that championed emerging artists including the Afrobeat sounds of The Souljazz Orchestra, disco house of Tush, and deep funk of The Soul Motivators. His DJ philosophy, as evident in the eclecticism of his label roster, is to take audiences on a musical journey that defies genre. John’s acclaimed compilation, ‘Ready Or Not - Deep Jazz Grooves from the CBC Radio Archive’ shines a spotlight on jazz from Canada and demonstrates his knack for discovering forgotten classics.

For over two decades behind the decks, John has shared the DJ booth with some of the world's most renowned open-format DJs including Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Shuya Okino, and Lefto, and has opened for legendary artists such as Roy Ayers, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Terry Callier (at the Jazz Cafe London UK), Kamasi Washington, The Roots, De La Soul, and Tuxedo.
