Bells Larsen (they/he/il) is a singer/songwriter from Toronto who grew up with the belief that everyone has a story to tell. Inspired by their hometown’s plethora of arts communities, and especially inspired by their family of artists (their dad is a celebrated children’s author), Larsen understood the transformative power of storytelling from a young age. Their faith in narrative translates in their music, which is folk-oriented: with influences like Elliott Smith and Adrianne Lenker, Larsen weaves deeply cathartic lyrics with memorable melodies, distilling the personal within the universal. While participating in a residency at the Banff Centre, Larsen began to conceptualize the makings for a record: struck by and still healing from the death of their first love, Larsen wanted to tell thoughtful stories and ask big questions about the experience of loss in its many guises, and to interpret their findings through songs that would resonate both with those closest to them and their extended communities. The result was a collection of 12 songs that bridge the gaps between I, you, and we to narrate an intentional meditation on how we try to grapple with what loss means in the twenty-first century; Larsen will release this project as their debut album with Next Door Records in 2022. They are currently based in Montreal.
