The Orange Devils Band is a 13 piece big band consisting of some of the finest jazz musicians in the city along with superlative vocalist Rita Di Ghent. We feature the music of the black bands of the 1930's: Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Jimmie Lunceford, Fletcher Henderson, Andy Kirk and his Clouds of Joy, and others!

The band is hot, the music is bluesy and swinging, and it all combines for sheer fun led by ace arranger and guitarist Martin Loomer.

After studying jazz performance at York University in the 1970's Martin Loomer became the guitarist and arranger for the seminal Toronto jump band Shox Johnson & His Jivebombers. From there he was recruited by world-famous saxophonist Jim Galloway to fill the same roles in founding Jim Galloway's Wee Big Band, a repertory jazz orchestra still going 30 years later.

After further developing his arranging and playing experience with the Tom DeMoraes Swing Orchestra and subsequently with the Canadian Tribute to Glenn Miller for a decade, Martin has returned to his love of the great black bands of the 1930's and their neglected repertoire with his new big band the Orange Devils.

"I believe strongly that this music is worthy of continued performance, and that nothing matches the impact of hearing these pieces played live once again. The fact that I am able to attract such top flight musicians to play this music attests both to the greatness of the original compositions, and to the sheer fun musicians enjoy in playing them."
