Magnoli-YEAH!

The Magnolia Brass Band of Toronto is a traditional New Orleans style street parade band, playing around southern Ontario for over forty years.

If you ever saw “Tremé,” or the James Bond movie “Live and Let Die,” you’ve seen a brass band! The brass band tradition in New Orleans goes way back – brass bands have played at parades, festivals and every sort of party since before the beginnings of jazz. New Orleans brass bands are led on parade by a Grand Marshal, who dances ahead of the band carrying the iconic umbrella. The great tradition of the Second Line has you joining the parade to dance and strut along with the band. Second Liners might be fans, friends, strangers...just anybody who feels the spirit.

The Magnolia Brass Band was founded in 1980 by Patrick Tevlin and legendary trumpeter Kid Bastien, and is part of that tradition. In fact, the Magnolia has performed many times at New Orleans’ French Quarter Festival.

And yes, they do play at funerals.
